Who Are the Dogs in Your Neighborhood 2026
Welcome…
This project notices dogs—and through them, the communities, circumstances, and care we often overlook.
Welcome to Who Are the Dogs in Your Neighborhood? 2026
Pittsburgh has its celebrities and athletes, and that’s fine. I’ve just never gone coo-coo for cocoa puffs over either. However, … A cute dog on the sidewalk or a rogue cat looking or doing something absolutely cute will stop me every time.
This project notices dogs and cats and, through them, the communities and quiet stories around us. You see them everywhere. On sidewalks. In grocery store carts. Waiting in cars. Posted up on porches. Walking beside people having a great day or barely holding it together.
Pay attention long enough and you start seeing more than fur and leashes. You see routines, resilience, care, neglect, joy, strain, love, and survival, often all in the same block.
This is not about perfect pet ownership or judging from afar. It is about noticing. Slowing down just enough to realize that animals, like people, reflect the neighborhoods they move through.
That’s where this project comes from. From the animals who move through our neighborhoods quietly, confidently, sometimes chaotically, and often more honestly than the rest of us do.
Dogs and cats don’t need spotlights. They already tell the story, just by showing up.

Mister is a Shorkie!
He is a Shi-Tzu and Yorkie mix. And he put on quite the show standing in the Customer Service line at the grocery store.
Shorkie: half Shi-Tzu charm, half Yorkie attitude, 100% main character energy.
Meet Chase Another Shorkie
Just when you think you’ve captured the moment, they move—like kids do.
His mom had just fluffed his fur, and Chase responded by sticking his tongue out.
Zing Went the Strings of My Heart!
Chase arrived with red and yellow highlights dyed into his fur, adding to his already larger-than-life personality. Oh btw I guess all Shorkies can dance.

Met a Morkie in the grocery store today — half Maltese, half Yorkie, all confidence.
Rode through the aisles like he was approving prices and judging produce.
Didn’t buy anything but absolutely ran the place.
Have You Met a Morkie?
Yes, a Morkie. Part Maltese and part Yorkie. Didn’t buy anything but absolutely ran the place.

If you enjoy the dogs, the cats, and the quiet stories in between, buying me a coffee is a simple way to say “keep going.” No pressure. No subscription. Just caffeine-fueled noticing.
